Lucy Kellaway writes in today's (Oct 24, 2011) Financial Times column, Business Life, about a press release she received last week that began, "Starcom Media Vest Group of Greater China, in its mission to transform into a Human Experience Company, today unveils..."
She questions the obvious: what is "Greater China?"
Her answer: "Management bullshit, it seems, has finally arrived in the People's Republic."
I would add this: not only is it b.s. in management, it is b.s. in strategy as well, given my proclivity for this subject in recent months (search under the Strategy category at right, on this blog). Witness the continuation of the press release:
"Our dream is to grow our clients' business by transforming human behaviour through uplifting, meangingful human experiences."
What?! Richard Rumelt would cringe at how that statement exemplifies the height of "bad strategy." It is meaningless fluff. It doesn't say anything.
Which institution is offering the BS in Strategy?
