Typical model (Traditional):
Institutional Idea-Plan-Market-Incentivize-Participation
New Social Media Model:
bottom-up: Personal-Public-Community-Civic (the participant makes the choice of where to go, then "rides it up". New voices here: students, parents, and teachers.
The new social model is messy! Institutions (schools, in our case) will find it challenging to move forward without the voices of students, parents, and teachers. We need to create spaces for those conversations and particpants.
So...how well are we preparing students for this world, and how prepared are we?
25 years ago, computers did NOT make any change in education. Now they will.
One educational narrative: testing, tracking, accountability, measuring to control. (Top-Down)
Second educational narrative: flexibility, engagement, individualization, measuring to empower. (Bottom-Up)
Our challenge: to choose, blend, or build new narratives for teaching and learning.
